Government investment in the arts, such as music and theatre, is a waste of money. Governments must invest this money in public services instead. (10:10) To what extend do you agree with this statement?
It is generally argued that the government should spend money only on services that help its people rather than investing unnecessarily in the arts
industry
. I do not agree with this
argument, though I believe that the budget allocated to the welfare services for the public should be significantly more than that to the development of industries such
as music and theatre.
It is a well-known fact that public services play an important role in the development of a country
. Services such
as a good medical facility and education are of utmost importance. A world-class healthcare system helps the country
fight any disease and keeps its citizen heathy
. a healthy state of wellbeing free from disease
health
For instance
, Germany due to its efficient health care facility was able to fight the novel corona virus better than any of its European counterparts. Similarly
, a strong educational system is critical for having a high literacy rate. This
encourages industries to set up their base in that location which generates employment. To cite an example, many multinational companies have set up their manufacturing plants or software hubs in India as it is easy to find quality human resources.
However
, completely neglecting art of any form is not a wise choice either. Arts like music, painting, theatre play a pivotal role in improving the economy of a country
. For example
, India's movie industry
contributes 5% to the nation's GDP. Hence
, not promoting this
industry
may lead to a loss in the revenue of the government. Moreover
, arts sector helps to increase the fame of a country
and fosters a good relationship between two nations. To illustrate, while I was travelling in Iran, I found people very accommodating because they loved India just because of its film industry
. Thus
, it can be said that the art industry
helps in building a good image of a country
if portrayed correctly.
In conclusion, although
quality public services with regards to health care and education is essential, the government cannot simply ignore its other industry
such
as arts which is a key to drive employment and also
helps a country
to build a positive reputation at a global stage.Submitted by sportardent89 on
