The bar chart given illustrates a comparison of four different types of transportation which residents in a European city used to commute to work in three different years from 1960 to 2000. The period between 1960 and 2000 witnessed a rapid climb in the proportion of city-dwellers commuting by automobile, reaching a peak of over 35%. In terms of buses, after a rise in 1980 to somewhere in the vicinity of 26%, its figure declined to over 15% in the final year.
