The period between 1960 and 2000 witnessed a rapid climb in the proportion of city-dwellers commuting by automobile, reaching a peak of over 35%. In contrast, during the same period, there was a dramatic decline in the data on bike and foot to only around 5% and under 10%, in their respective order/ in the given order. In terms of buses, after a rise in 1980 to somewhere in the vicinity of 26%, its figure declined to over 15% in the final year.

The pie chart illustrates the principal reasons behind the worldwide land degradation, whilst the table chart represents the main causes which led to the aforementioned issue by region in the 1990s. Overall, over-grazing was the main cause of agricultural land degradation, while European region was the one, mostly affected by this issue. The major cause is deforestation representing a portion of 9.8%. Oceania follows the word wide trend with over grazing as a first cause of land degradation. Finally, North America is clearly the less polluted region with 5% of land destructed.
