Looking more closely at the data, in 1851, there were 477,100 employees working in 225 factories, with the majority of workers being male. By 1861, the number of factories had slightly increased to 227, while the number of employees had noticeably decreased, with females making up the majority of the workforce—160,000 female workers compared to 131,780 male workers. In 1871, the number of factories surged dramatically, nearly tripling, though the decline in employee numbers continued. At this point, men became the predominant group among workers. This trend persisted until 1891, when the number of factories decreased from 721 in 1881 to 625. By 1901, with fewer workers overall and a higher proportion of men, the number of factories had dropped to 600, with the total number of employees falling to a low of 61,000. The table chart illustrates the number employee and manufacturers in both England and Wales from 1851 to 1901. Looking in closer detail to the table, it can be highlighted that the number of employees in 1851 was worth 477 100 for a total of 225 factories with a majority of males. A decade later, the number of factories jumped slightly to 227 with a noticeable decrease of employees, mainly composed of females, who represented 160 000 workers versus 131780 male workers. In 1871, the number of manufacturing facilities lifted overwhelmingly up, to nearly 3 times higher, with a steady decline in the employees’ number. However, men are this time more represented in the workers. This trend will continue until 1891, when the number of factories moved down from 721 in 1881 to 625 one decade later. With fewer workers and more males than females, the number of factories reached the point of 600 factories in 1901, involving a bottom of 61 000, concerning the total employee number. There exist contrasting views about supervisors seeking some data, while employing new workers, about their likes and dislikes or their marital status that whether it is relevant or irrelevant to inquire about this information. There exist strong arguments in support of both sides of this debate, which implies it is worth examining both points of view before reaching any conclusion. To commence with, it is vital to collect the necessary data about the fresh entrants in any organisation because it would give an idea about providing incentives to particular worker to boost the morale. Precisely, the management would be able to decide that whether reward should be monetary or non-monetary. To illustrate, a strong economy of Japan is evident because of contented workers due to the perfect recognition methodology adopted by the industrialists. It is, therefore, imperative to gather the requisite data to utilise it at a correct time. On the contrary, every human has a different psychological pattern, and some employees may consider this as a wrong practice. As they would be creating a false and negative image about the company at a very initial stage, it would affect their output level deleteriously. A recent research in Europe, for example, proved that a colossal number of young working professionals did not perform well in beginning of their job because they were not pleased with the questions being asked during their interview. Hence, the reason of asking questions should be mentioned on company’s website to avoid any conflicts. In conclusion, it can be reiterated that whereas demanding some information about their families from a fresh entrant could be proved advantageous for rewarding them, it might lead to a negative approach about the company. However, it would be a smart move, in my perspective, for strengthening the bond between factory and its workers.

Question: Some people think the best way to motivate people to work hard is to pay them based on how much they produce or sell. Do you agree or disagree? Include relevant example from your own Answer Owing to the indolence nature of humans, It is believed by some people that the most effective method of motivating people to work efficiently is payment based on their productivity and sales. This essay agrees with wages based on work done as individuals tend to work more to earn more; and improvement of sales is evident. Firstly, Paying individuals in accordance with their productivity makes people work hard in order to earn well. This is because people desire a good pay and will do anything to earn it even if it means putting in extra effort and time. To illustrate, In Nigeria, Unilever factory workers are paid daily based on the quantity of their production. As a result, workers perform their work in their full capacity till exhaustion. Hence, wages based on work output is a reliable way of ensuring diligence and hard work at workplaces. Secondly, wages that are dependent on sales give rise to development of better marketing strategies to improve sales. Employees will be encouraged to emulate better marketing and communications skills to advertise and encourage buyers to purchase goods because target must be met. For instance, When my aunt implemented salary based on sales strategy at her supermarket, 20% increased sales in the first month and 45% in the second market were recorded respectively. This is because of lesser pay when the sales is below the target and more pay when above the target. Therefore, payment that is based on sales gives rise to better performance of the employer and the company as a whole. In conclusion, wages that dependent on productivity and sales is the best approach to ensure hard work, better performance and growth of the company as a whole.
