Since university funding benefits both university students and society as a whole, both parties should bear some of the cost of university educations. University students gain both personal and economic benefits by attending university; however, society also benefits by having a more educated population. In addition, it is important that all members of society have the opportunity to attend university regardless of wealth. In this essay the various models of funding for university places will be discussed. There is little doubt that people who attend university usually benefit through higher salaries and greater opportunities. It is therefore reasonable that society expects students to make some contribution to the cost of their education. However, expecting students to fully fund their own education may cause students to avoid courses that lead to less well-paying jobs such as the sciences, nursing and teaching. Society as a whole also benefits from having a more educated community and should support people who make an effort to become educated. It is therefore reasonable that governments also provide money for university places, particularly when the cost of doing a course or the return for students discourages them from completing a course that is needed by society. The funding model that is used for university placements is also very important as governments have a responsibility to provide an opportunity for all members of society to attend university. Deferred repayment of fees through low cost loans and the partial subsidising of university courses by government are effective methods of ensuring fairer access to university education since they allow people to pay for their education when they are best able to afford to. In summary, university education benefits both individuals and society and both governments and individuals who receive a university education should make a contribution to the costs of tertiary education. In addition, it is important that appropriate loan schemes are in place to ensure that access to university is available to all members of society.

The pie charts compare the proportion of water consumption for industry, agriculture, and domestic purpose in six separate regions of the world. Overall, it is clear that water used for agriculture accounts for the largest proportion, except for North America and Europe, mainly providing for industrial use. With regard to agricultural use, Central Asia is the area that uses the greatest level of water, at exactly 88%, followed by the figure for Africa and South East Asia, at 84% and 81% respectively. South America needs a smaller rate, with 71%, compared to one-third of the total consumption in Europe. In contrast, Europe area primarily uses water for industry, making up the highest percentage among the remaining regions, over a half of the total. Likewise, 48% of water is prioritized this purpose in North America, contrasting to 10% of that in South America. A noticeable pattern is that all six areas use an inconsiderable percentage of water for domestic purpose, apart from South America, with 19%, being the most significant consumption level.

In recent years, the number of refugees fleeing conflict, persecution, and poverty has risen dramatically. While some argue that wealthier nations have a moral duty to accept and support more refugees, others contend that such responsibilities should not be imposed. Personally, I strongly agree that affluent countries should take greater responsibility by accommodating more refugees and offering them essential support such as food and housing. First and foremost, wealthier nations often have the resources and infrastructure to manage an increase in refugee populations. Many developed countries enjoy stable economies, robust welfare systems, and well-organized administrative capacities. These advantages enable them to provide the basic necessities of life—shelter, food, and healthcare—without significantly straining national budgets. For example, Germany has successfully integrated over a million Syrian refugees in recent years, showing that large-scale humanitarian assistance is achievable with sufficient planning and investment. Moreover, offering aid to refugees aligns with international human rights obligations and moral responsibility. Refugees are often victims of circumstances beyond their control, such as war or persecution. Turning them away contradicts the principles of humanity and solidarity that many wealthy nations claim to uphold. By sharing the burden more equitably, developed countries can promote global stability and reduce the strain on neighboring developing countries, which often bear the brunt of refugee crises. In conclusion, I firmly believe that wealthy countries should do more to support refugees by accepting greater numbers and ensuring they receive basic assistance. This approach not only reflects moral and humanitarian values but also contributes to a more balanced and compassionate global community.
