I hope I find you well.I am a student at Northlea College.I am writing you
this
letter because of my accommodation arrangement. I am sharing the room with another student. She is in an upper grade than me .We have been sharing for two months now, since the day we stayed together I have been having problems. The
first
incident happened on the
first
day,she had a party in the room and invited lots of people without my concern as her roommate. My Laptop and my few belongings were stolen .I tried to confide in her she did not seem to care .Another problem is that she comes late every night and disturbs my sleep I am unable to sleep peaceful or study in the room.I believe
this
environment is bad for me . May you please consider my complaints and I am hoping to hear from you soon. Yours Nonhlanhla

The Greeting

Depending on the style and aim of the letter, you will need to adapt your greeting.

Always start an informal letter in the ways:

  • Dear + name
  • Hi / Hello + name

‘Dear...’ is more appropriate, so stick with this.

For a formal letter there are two options for the greeting:

  • Use Dear Sir or Madam if you don’t know the name of the person you are writing to.
  • Use Dear + surname if you do know their name, e.g. Dear Mr Smith or Dear Mrs Jones.
