, many disagree and feel that animal testing is cruel and inhumane. According to Humane Society International, animals used in experiments are commonly subjected to force feeding, food and water deprivation, the infliction of burns and other wounds to study the healing process, the infliction of pain to study its effects and remedies, or other means. Despite

 is highly regulated, with laws in place to protect animals from mistreatment. Most major

 institutions' programs are voluntarily reviewed for humane practices by the Association for Assessment.

, alternative testing methods now exist that can replace the need for animals. Other

 as in vitro testing offer opportunities to reduce or replace animal testing. In conclusion, while the animal protectors are calling for altruism regarding animals, others are convinced that humane testing is capable of saving humanity from dangerous and deadly consequences.
