Some people believe that smartphones are destroying social interaction today. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Interpersonal communication, that has been an intrinsic part of human life throughout history, today, has become easier than ever before owing to the advent of
smartphones
.
Nevertheless
, these gadgets are often said to be undermining social bonds among people, by,
for instance
, eliminating the need for face-to-face communication. I completely disagree that
smartphones
negatively impact people's relationships. Analysing how they facilitate communication and help us broaden our social circle will prove
this
thesis true.
To begin
with, high end cell phones have eradicated all barriers for people to interact with each other.
For example
, by using apps,
such
as Facebook, Instagram and IMO that most modern mobile devices incorporate, we can instantly contact our relatives and friends regardless of our location. Just a century ago,
however
, it took several weeks or more for a message to reach its destination, and double that time to receive a response.
This
indicates that
smartphones
foster more social intercourse, which can, in turn, consolidate interpersonal relationships.
Secondly
,
smartphones
provide their users with scope for making new acquaintances, because they have Internet access. By utilizing social networking sites,
such
as WhatsApp, We Chat and Reddit, we not only can acquire some useful information, but
also
meet a lot of new people
.
Accept space
.
To illustrate, I have been actively using Facebook Messenger for roughly 3 years, and now I have well over 20 friends from around the world. All
this
means that, contrary to what many people think,
smartphones
have encouraged more social interaction. Overall, it is my feeling that
smartphones
have augmented socialization among people. Today they enable us to converse with others no matter where we are and build new contacts. It is predicted that these gadgets will make our social lives even more comfortable in the future.

Support ideas with relevant, specific examples

Examples make your writing easier to understand by illustrating points more effectively.

Examples, if used properly, not only help you get higher marks for ‘Task Response’ but also for ‘Coherence’.

When giving examples it is best to put them after your main idea or topic sentence. They can be used in the middle of supporting sentences or they can be used to start a new sentence. There is no rule for where exactly to give examples in essays, logically they would come after your main idea/topic sentence or just after a supporting sentence.

Linking words for giving examples:

  • for example
  • for instance
  • to illustrate this
  • to give a clear example
  • such as
  • namely
  • to illustrate
  • take, for example
