Several language are in danger of extinction because they are spoken by a very small number of people. Some people say that government should spend money on saving them, while, others think that it is waste of money. Discuss both views and give your opinions.
There is no doubt that there are numerous languages spoken all over the world. While many believe that
government
should help financially to help conserve the languages which are almost extinct, others disagree. In my opinion also
, the preservation of such
languages does not need funding from government
, and it is the responsibility of the native speakers to save their languages.
According to some, government
should utilize money to help save languages which have less number of speakers by promoting them through production of films and books, written in those local languages. Entry to these events are usually free of charge, which attracts a huge crowd and are often very successful to grow interest among all. Suggestion
the government
For example
, in Singapore, the government
hosts an event every week where all the performances happen in local languages and the tickets generally sell out in minutes. Such
events are very effective in making people aware about the importance of keeping alive their own language
. Without the involvement of government
, such
events would have been impossible to host as the investors tend to shy away from funding similar events.
However
, this
is often not enough. It is the responsibility of the citizens to love their language
, show respect to their roots and continue to teach their children to use the same. Instead
of asking money from the government
, people should spread awareness among their local communities through workshops, sessions and also
by making it mandatory to teach the language
in schools. For instance
, in schools, songs and drama in native language
, performed by pupils, can prove to be beneficial to grow interest among them to converse in those languages. Therefore
, simply giving importance to one's root can also
save those languages from extinction.
In conclusion, in my opinion, even if government
provides aids to advertise a language
, it would not suffice as if nobody takes interest the effort and money will not be fruitful. Hence
, it should be the combined effort of the locals, and native speakers to pass the language
from generation to generation. Although
, it can prove to be tough initially
, it is often the only possible way to preserve a language
