Social media such as Facebook, Twitter or Instagram has replaced face-to-face communication in our everyday life. Do the advantages of this development outweigh its disadvantages?
The way
people
interact with each other has gone through a paradigm shift in recent times. Meeting in person is at the level of extinction due to the vast usage of social media
. Users
prefer social media
because they provide convenience, cost-effectiveness and frequent interactions. At the same time
, people
felt addictiveness and wastage of time
while using them. Further
,I will elaborate on the mentioned pros and cons, and corroborate my inclination for the advantages.
Social media
have made it possible to meet the loved-ones online at a preferred time
. Users
can prior send messages and check for the availability of their partners. They can sit relaxed on their sofas/beds and make video calls. This
was not possible in yesteryears. For example
, many senior citizens love to talk on video calls with their friends, grandchildren as per their availability.
Additionally
, The internet is progressively becoming cheaper and cheaper nowadays. Especially, in countries like India, everyone can afford the internet and can create free user accounts on social media
. This
trend suffices the requirement of meeting in person because people
can share the same feelings via conference calls, video-calls as they used to share when they meet in person. For instance
, the labour class people
, who come from the state of Bihar and live in Gujarat, use these media
to call their family members every day to get the feeling of being at home.
One possible drawback is, some people
think that social media
is addictive which is not beneficial for their users
in long run. Many users
cannot spend their day without checking social media
.Their users
spend a lot of time
surfing the websites and getting unnecessary updates. In particular
, the young generation surfs a lot on websites such
as Instagram, Facebook. This
time
could be utilized for productive activities.
In conclusion, everything has its pros and cons and the same applies to social media
. Their users
must observe self-control tactics in using these media
. Except that, for me,the advantages of ease in communication, being cheaper and user-friendly surely hold more significance than their disadvantages.Submitted by ankit9941 on
