Globalisation is considered by some to be a positive phenomenon for everyone involved, but not so by others. What is involved in the globalisation process and to what extent do you think its effects can be considered as positive?

The notion of
globalisation
can be defined in two distinct ways. On the one hand, technological innovation involves the spread of telecommunications and electronic advances around the world.
On the other hand
, cultural, economic and financial
globalisation
based on trade and the movement of capital is a rather different phenomenon. As regards technological innovation, many people feel that the social changes that have come with the invention of smartphones, social networks, etc. have not brought an improvement to the quality of our lives. I would argue that the effects have been generally positive on the daily activities of citizens in developed and developing countries. Communication has become easier, jobs have been created and our lives have generally become richer
as a result
. An analysis of the effects of economic and financial
globalisation
is more complex. While the increase in employment opportunities and economic development, in general, has improved the activity of millions of people in developing regions, it cannot be denied that these changes have
also
brought serious problems to the world
such
as pollution, the loss of cultural specificities and traditions and the exploitation of the poor by the rich. Many blue-collar workers in the developed states have
also
lost their jobs
as a result
. There has recently been a reaction in some western societies against
this
phenomenon, with the rise in popularity of political movements taking a stand against
globalisation
. It is only when one considers the alternatives: a reduction in trade, the closing of borders, a rejection of foreigners, that it seems clear that we must strive to continue to bring people together while trying out best to protect the world from the negative consequences of
this
trend.
