You live in a room in college which you share with another student. However, there are many problems with this arrangement and you find it very difficult to work. Write a letter to the accommodation officer at the college. In this letter, Describe the situation Explain your problems and why it is difficult to work Say what kind of accommodation you would prefer

I would like to write
this
letter to inform you of my current problem with my roommate. Currently, I am having some problems with the roommate in our dormitory that was arranged by the management board. It is evident to me that he has a different sleep schedule, as he played his favourite game all night. Yesterday, I unexpectedly woke up at midnight, because of the loud noise from his video game. As he shouted out loud and laughed because he was so excited about the game with his players. Long and deep sleep is very important for me because I need to recover after a heavy day of studying in college, as well as a part-time job at a restaurant. Recently, I have been so exhausted I cannot focus on the lessons in the class.
Although
I have had a serious talk with him,
this
situation is not improving.
Therefore
, I am very worried about
this
problem, since the exams for
this
semester are coming soon
next
month. It is greatly appreciated if you can arrange for me a new place. I look forward to hearing from you soon. Best Regards, Viet Pham

The Greeting

Depending on the style and aim of the letter, you will need to adapt your greeting.

Always start an informal letter in the ways:

  • Dear + name
  • Hi / Hello + name

‘Dear...’ is more appropriate, so stick with this.

For a formal letter there are two options for the greeting:

  • Use Dear Sir or Madam if you don’t know the name of the person you are writing to.
  • Use Dear + surname if you do know their name, e.g. Dear Mr Smith or Dear Mrs Jones.
