In recent years, many people are calling for the cancelling of subsidies for artists, and thinking that government should spend

money on more important matters. I would totally agree with

. It is true that

art

plays an important role in everyday life.

For example

, it has a positive effect on a person’s mental health. People will usually have a pleasant feeling when they see magnificent artwork. The pursuit of beauty is part of human instinct.

In addition

art

also

contributes significantly to the preservation of cultures. The paintings and books which are written can be stored for centuries, perhaps even for eternity. Unfortunately, artists are largely dependent on state financial support.

Otherwise

, many may be forced to give up their career because of the difficulty in making profits.

However

, I still think of

art

to be an optional element in life. Without it, people can still live on without too many negative effects. In comparison, there are many more important things the state needs to address,

as public health and the guarantee of basic needs.

For example

, in the current background of the pandemic, the priority of the government resource should be devoted to expanding the capacity of the hospital and the number of staff in it. Industrial production should

also

be guaranteed to provide a steady supply of the items which are widely in need. Other essential areas like scientific research shouldn’t be neglected either. In general, all of these aspects are of greater importance than subsidizing artists. Government should really allocate its limited resources to these matters
