The combination of the unknown, the science, the knowledge and the social interactions makes medicine the most appealing subject to me. I’ve always been inspired to overcome any challenges or obstacles, and medicine provides the best cocktail of challenges and knowledge to conquer any bump along the

way

. To start

this

medical journey, I could go

way

back to the time I was a young girl and felt the joy of helping others. My early work as a volunteer consisted of helping the needy in a Portuguese program called Bank Food.

This

early volunteer work paved the initial bricks to a long road ahead. Completing my school studies in Catholic scholarity and public scholarity proved that I could endure challenging environments. Both types of scholarity are hugely different from where I come, the challenges of both made me able to adapt to any certain type of environment the world throws at me. After completing my national studies, I decided to go full ahead into an adventure, the Czech Republic.

This

was a difficult decision to make, family and friends were all in Portugal, but

nevertheless

, I decided to go ahead and proceed with the Medical Course in Masaryk University of Brno, Czech Republic. The opportunity to be in the Centre of Europe, in an English-taught university was exactly what I wanted.

This

medical training was based on two main hospitals: Faculty Hospital of Brno and St. Anne’s University Hospital Brno. For my

last

year of studies, I organized in

such

a

way

that my internship would be done in the Hospital of Cascais in Portugal. Throughout

this

whole year, I had the opportunity to learn in a different

way

than I was ever before; tutorship by masters of their craft made me realize more than ever

this

was exactly what I wanted. The opportunity to participate in surgeries, emergencies and

day

to

day

procedures is something I will value for the rest of my life. The 27th of April was a

day

to remember, the

day

I graduated from my Master’s degree in General Medicine. After some well-deserved rest, I started to weigh my options in life: stay at home or go for another adventure. The decision was an easy one; every part of me wanted another experience, and, with a little help from my friends, Ireland was the country that felt ideal. A stunningly beautiful, English-speaking, music-loving country felt right.
