Government should be used to support children in school for sports rather than to support professional sports and arts that perform for the general public. To what extent do you agree or disagree ?

Government
spending is one of the big concerns of the public. Some
people
argue that funding should be used in promoting
sports
in school rather than used in supporting local
artists
and sportsmen.
However
,I disagree with their point of view and I believe that the
government
should provide
support
to both sectors. Among all the reasons why
resources
should be allocated to
children
instead
of the professionals in
sports
and
art
field, the most significant one is that the
government
fund comes from the taxpayers' hard-earn money and most
people
expect the new policies or funding should benefit the majority in the society
instead
of the minority. Compared with the number of students, the number of professional
athletes
and
artists
is too small to be mentioned in society,
therefore
,the general public will prefer supporting the
government
to spend money on their younger generation rather than on sportsmen and
artists
.
Also
, never should we overlook the importance of promoting
sports
at school. These days,
children
tend to glue their eyes to the computer screen and seldom participate in outdoor
sports
. Lack of regular exercise may lead to an increasing number of
children
having obese. Teenagers who are obsessed may have a higher possibility to have other
health
issues,
such
as high blood pressure or even life-threatening diseases like heart attack,in the future which may increase the pressure on the public
health
care system in the future.
However
, I still believe that the
government
should
support
local
athletes
and
artists
due to
a multitude of reasons. The first reason popping into my mind is that supporting professional
sports
and
art
industries can increase the attractiveness of our city and boost the tourism industry.
For instance
,
art
represents the culture, history and heritage of a
country
. The
art
pieces that are located in the public area can be talking points and new tourist spots for
people
which attract them to visit our place and learn about the culture of our hometown. Tourism is an important financial incentive for the
government
. With the funding and
support
from tourists, the
government
may have more
resources
to preserve cultural heritage
as well as
more budget to spend on other vital public services like the
health
care system and education.
Also
, large-scale
sports
events, like Hong Kong Seven ,could
also
attract more visitors and bring a large amount of income to different industries,
such
as accommodation, transportation and the food industry, and
hence
, boost the
country
's economy.
Moreover
, most
people
would like to see the
artists
and
athletes
who represent their
country
get good results in international competitions. Whenever
people
see they are standing in the prize presentation stages, they would be proud and have a better sense of belonging to the
country
. Without
government
support
,
artists
and
athletes
may not have enough
resources
to
further
develop their profession. In conclusion, it is no doubt that funding should be spent on promoting
sports
programs at school as it is beneficial to
children
's development and
health
,
however
, I think that the
government
should
also
reserve
resources
for promoting professional
sports
and
art
as it may beneficial to the public as well.

Word Count

IELTS says that you should write a minimum of 250 words in writing task 2. If you go under word count you will lose marks in task response.

A very long essay will not give you a higher band score.

Aim for between 260 to 290 words in writing task 2. This will ensure a concise essay and will be realistic in terms of time management. You have only 40 minutes to write the essay and you need around 10 minutes of planning time, so you will not be able to write a long essay in 30 minutes.
