A friend of yours recently gave you a nice birthday present. Write a letter to your friend. In your letter: -Thanks her for the present and say why you particularly like it. -Describe some other presents that you received. -Explain some of the things you did on your birthday.

Dear Jane, How is your trip? I’m just writing to tell you that I’ve received your gift. Thank you so much for the watch! You surprised me. How did you know I was looking for a Rolex? I love the minimalistic design of the watch and its leather strap. I’m sure it will be my fashion accessory because it looks so stunning. You know, I was so happy on my birthday
this
year. My husband made me feel moved with a bouquet and a heart-shaped ring. I hadn’t seen him in
such
a romantic manner before.
Also
, my son drew me a picture by himself with the line “Mom, I love you”. The weather was not so good that day, so I had a small celebration with my family at home. My sisters cooked me some of my favourite courses, and we sang karaoke during the meal. It was
such
a warm and lovely party. I’ll tell you more when you are back. Enjoy your holiday! Best regards, Maria

Use a variety of complex and simple sentences

You should use complex sentences in your writing, but it does not mean that you should try to make all of our sentences complex.

‘Complex’ sentences are not actually very complex; they are just two or more simple sentences put together. Putting them together makes the essay more coherent and cohesive.

Examples:

I really want to study but I’m too tired.

I wore a warm coat because the weather was cold.

If action is not taken soon on climate change, global warming will get worse.
