You have received the invitation to take part in your friend's wedding ceremony, but you will be in Canada on a business trip on that day with your boss. Write to your friend to apologise for not being able to take part in the wedding ceremony. In your letter: - Thank your friend for the invitation, - Explain why you will not be able to visit, - Suggest another plan.

Dear Jane, I hope you’re well. I’m afraid I can’t attend your wedding reception next Saturday. Thank you for your invitation. You don’t know how glad I am when receiving it that I can’t wait to see you on your big day and catch up with all our old friends, but something has come up and I’m not going to be able to make it. I feel so sorry about it. So, what’s my excuse? My boss has just informed me that I have to go to Toronto to meet a very important customer on Friday with him. I thought that I might be able to rush back on Friday evening, but we’re going to be treated to an evening meal at the hotel and we're expected to attend, and there won’t be a flight until Saturday afternoon. On a positive note, it will be my birthday two weeks after your wedding, and I’m planning to have a small celebration at home with my family and some close friends. If you guys have come back from the honeymoon, you and your husband are more than welcome to come along. Happy wedding and see you guys at my birthday party. Best regards, Maria
