Lack of freshwater is becoming a global issue of increasing importance. What problems does this shortage cause? What measures could be taken to overcome these problems?
Water
is one essential component of human life and health. The availability of freshwater has been a major concern of this
century as bad water
pollution is causing the loss of good water
supply to households. In this
essay, I will discuss first the challenges faced by this
cause and at ,last
suggest ways to prevent these issues.
Firstly
, Outbreaks of Diseases such
as typhoid, cholera and skin diseases are common problems faced when people do not have access to fresh water
. They are forced to use
the contaminated water
available at their homes since they have no other choice than to use
it for their everyday use
like drinking, cooking or bathing. Moreover
, this
problem burdens food vendors or people who use
water
for their business and interferes with their business reducing productivity. Since they spend money to buy water
each day or purchase water
purifier machines before they are able to have smooth work.
Secondly
, these problems can be solved when government agencies take it upon themselves to provide water
purifiers or boreholes and pipes in places that lack fresh water
. When this
is done, citizens in the country will have access to good drinking water
and will prevent drinkable diseases and food contamination. Also
, there should be regulations to prevent people from illegal mining and bad fishing practices since these practices destroy our water
bodies. For instance
, in 2021 the government of Ghana saw that their water
bodies were being destroyed by miners so they made rules for these companies to mine legally and when they disobeyed their machines were seized stopping them from mining.
To summarize, individuals should have good habits towards maintaining our water
supply so that the above problems will be overcome and also
