Some people argue that technological advancements , such as smartphones and the Internet, have had a negative impact on social interactions and human relationships. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this?

Many individuals hold a belief that the extensive proliferation of technology
such
as the emergence of technological gadgets has inflicted irreversible damage upon interconnectedness between well-being and their
communication
habits. Personally, I partly agree with
this
school of thought because of 2 main reasons. There is one major reason that explains why the overuse of technological enhancements may lead to damage to human
relationships
. Social
relationships
can only be maintained through direct and physical meetings because these situations foster the existence of emotional nuances. When
people
meet in real-life settings, they must put a lot of effort into the process of preparation, which means that they would be more emotionally invested in the situation.
This
emotional investment strengthens the
relationships
and makes
people
closer to each other.
However
, the use of modern technology,
such
as the Internet, has made
people
more comfortable in virtual situations, taking away the effort and
also
the strengthening effect of social meetings on our
relationships
.
On the other hand
, technological advancements still have some benefits for the formation of new
relationships
and the maintenance of current ones. In the past,
due to
the lack of effective
communication
methods, when
people
are at a distance from others, their interactions became extremely scarce.
This
would be equivalent to the destruction of
people
's
relationships
as they could no longer exchange information.
In contrast
, the modern world of new technology has offered a plethora of
communication
methods, which help
people
reach each other in an instantaneous fashion.
This
not only helps the expansion of social circles but
also
supports distant
relationships
. In conclusion,
although
there are controversial opinions on determining whether or not the use of modern technological innovations is positive or negative to humans' social
relationships
, I think that the damage is intense, yet there are some benefits that should be noticed.
While
these advancements result in the formation of superficial
relationships
, they foster distant
communication
, which was not available in the past

Support ideas with relevant, specific examples

Examples make your writing easier to understand by illustrating points more effectively.

Examples, if used properly, not only help you get higher marks for ‘Task Response’ but also for ‘Coherence’.

When giving examples it is best to put them after your main idea or topic sentence. They can be used in the middle of supporting sentences or they can be used to start a new sentence. There is no rule for where exactly to give examples in essays, logically they would come after your main idea/topic sentence or just after a supporting sentence.

Linking words for giving examples:

  • for example
  • for instance
  • to illustrate this
  • to give a clear example
  • such as
  • namely
  • to illustrate
  • take, for example
