Some people think that the best way to be successful in life is to get a university education. Others disagree and say that nowadays, this is no longer true. Discuss both views and give your own opinions.

Some people believe that getting a university degree will improve their career prospects
while
others insist that higher
education
is no longer necessary in today’s society. In my opinion,
although
success may depend on other factors
such
as practical experiences and interpersonal
skills
, a rigorous
education
is still essential. Admittedly,
experience
and soft
skills
certainly matter, and they cannot be guaranteed by university
education
. In many industries, employers only hire people who have previously worked in the same sector. By hiring experienced employees, they can save the costs of training new recruits. Soft
skills
are
also
important in today’s workplace. Gone are the days when employees could finish tasks all by themselves, and now the completion of tasks is built on team effort. Take multinational corporations
for example
, their employees need to communicate with colleagues and clients from radically different backgrounds, which requires good interpersonal abilities.
However
,
experience
and soft
skills
alone are not enough.
First,
jobs have become more complicated these days and it is not possible to perform them without professional knowledge and critical thinking, which can only be obtained from higher
education
.
For example
, a person cannot practice as a doctor or a lawyer without getting a degree in medicine or law.
Secondly
, despite the significance of
experience
and soft
skills
, the prerequisite for many jobs is a college degree. Applicants without qualified certificates will not have the chance to be interviewed. What’s more, universities nowadays impart much more than simply theoretical knowledge. They conduct workshops to give students hands-on
experience
. University
education
also
provides students with an opportunity to interact with peers and improve their communication abilities. In conclusion,
while
tertiary
education
is not the only thing needed for success, it is still an indispensable factor.

Include an introduction and conclusion

A conclusion is essential for IELTS writing task 2. It is more important than most people realise. You will be penalised for missing a conclusion in your IELTS essay.

The easiest paragraph to write in an essay is the conclusion paragraph. This is because the paragraph mostly contains information that has already been presented in the essay – it is just the repetition of some information written in the introduction paragraph and supporting paragraphs.

The conclusion paragraph only has 3 sentences:

  • Summary
  • Restatement of thesis
  • Prediction or recommendation

Example:

To summarize, a robotic teacher does not have the necessary disciple to properly give instructions to students and actually works to retard the ability of a student to comprehend new lessons. Therefore, it is clear that the idea of running a classroom completely by a machine cannot be supported. After thorough analysis on this subject, it is predicted that the adverse effects of the debate over technology-driven teaching will always be greater than the positive effects, and because of this, classroom teachers will never be substituted for technology.

Start your conclusion with a linking phrase. Here are some examples:

  • In conclusion
  • To conclude
  • To summarize
  • Finally
  • In a nutshell
  • In general
