Write IELTS essay task 1 with at least 150 words with the topic "The diagram below shows the water cycle, which is the continuous movement of water on, above and below the surface of the Earth. Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features and make comparisons where relevant."
The picture illustrates the natural process known as the
water
cycle in which
water
passes from the
ocean
to the air and
then
to land. As shown on the diagram, there are three main stages including evaporation, precipitation and running back into the
ocean
. The process begins with evaporation. In
this
stage, 80% of
water
vapour in the air comes from the
ocean
. Heat from the sun causes
water
to evaporate, and
water
vapour condenses to form clouds. When it comes to the second stage, called precipitation,
water
falls as rain or snow. At the third stage in the cycle, rainwater may take various paths. Some of it may fall into lakes or return to the
ocean
via ‘surface runoff’. In another way, rainwater may run under the ground, reaching the impervious layer of the earth. Groundwater can be intruded by salt
water
before it passes into the
ocean
to complete the cycle.
