Your English-speaking friend has asked for your help with a college project he/she is doing about celebrating New Year in different countries. Write a letter to your friend. In your letter • say how important New Year is to people in your country • describe how New Year is celebrated in your country • explain what you like about New Year celebrations in your country

Hello Sammy, How've you been? It's been a long
time
since we
last
talked. I was so happy when I saw your message! It's been so hectic at work so I'm not having too much free
time
, but let me know if you have some
time
next week and I'll call you so we can catch up! Regarding your project about celebrating New
Year
in different countries, I'll tell you a bit about our traditions for that
time
of the
year
. For a great number of Uruguayan people is the most important day of the
year
because it is considered by them as an opportunity to change whatever they want to change in their lives. People in my country usually have dinner with their relatives and friends. Everyone dresses in something white and kind of formal. Once we had dinner, at 11:59pm everyone went to the beach to see a great show of fireworks, after that, some people went to sleep
while
others went to a dance club. What I most like about New
Year
's Day is the
time
that I spend with my whole family, we always have a lot of fun, eat delicious meals, and have a great
time
remembering good memories! Hope to have helped you with your project! Let me know if you want to know something else! I hope to see you soon! I miss you! Lots of love, Jim

Structure your letter

A letter needs to be written using a proper format, including the following:

  • A greeting (Dear sir/madam, Dear John, Dear Mr. Smith)
  • The main body (consisting of paragraphs for each part of the letter)
  • A closing (Yours sincerely, Yours faithfully, Best wishes, Kind regards, Love)

When writing a letter as part of the IELTS General Training Writing Task 1, it is important to include the bullet points presented to you in the question.

All three bullet points need to be presented. And remember that some bullet points contain more than one element. So, make sure to watch for ‘and’ and plurals.
