Many people buy product that they do not need and replace old products with new ones unnecessarily.(4.15) Why do people buy things they do not really need? Do you think this is a good thing?

I can guess there would be some reasons why people buy things if they not essentially need them.
Firstly
, people just want to be look special, which make them buy an expensive bag or a watch if they already have one. It seems that they believe what they have can show what they are to other people.

 new products are expensive, they don't care much.
Secondly
, people buy stuff just they are sick and tired of using the same things for a long time.
For example
, especially in my country, I can easily find many young people like to switch their smartphone at least every 2 years even if theirs work well.
Thirdly
, some people want to follow the current trend. They might think that if they use the same new product, they are with the new popularity. In my opinion, those habits are up to people's own decision because I think people deserve to do things at their free will. And it might make them pleasant for a while.
However
, in an environmental point of view, I think changing their stuff too often is not good because their behaviour can make more waste. Plus, if the price of a product is too high to buy for young pupils, they could have a hard time compensating their budget. I heard that some young adults loan a lot of money from a bank and buy a new car to be looked superior and
then
 they regret soon while repaying the debt. Especially for young people, it would be harder to control their urges when they have to decide to buy or not. In conclusion, I think buying a new product is not bad if they can control properly. Though still they have to think seriously not to make too much waste because of their wasteful buying behaviour.
