Walking is known to be beneficial for health and yet fewer and fewer people walking these days. What are the reasons for this? What can be done to tackle this problem?
Simple cardiovascular exercises like brisk walking and jogging have immense health benefits.
However
, there is a steep decline in the number of people opting for such
activities nowadays. While lack of time
and place can be the most influential factor behind this
, some small contributions from the government can encourage everybody to engage in these daily exercises.
Firstly
, life is fast paced now and everybody, especially the young generation has a busy schedule. It is becoming increasingly difficult for us to engage ourselves in anything other than our usual routine. For example
, someone who commutes for 2 hours daily and has a job of 9 hours will not be very keen on investing some time
in walking. Additionally
, having to use crowded streets for exercises can not only prove to be discouraging, but can also
pose huge accidental risks. for
instance, I study shows that 25% of the fatal accidents involve people walking on the road.
Suggestion
For
Nevertheless
, a little effort to build roads and parks with joggers' path can provide the necessary peaceful space and thus
can increase the eagerness of people to spend time
on walking. In particular
, most of the people in New York walk because, the roads there have huge footpaths. When compared to India, which has narrow walking space, a study has shown that New York has 70% more persons preferring to work to their destination. Another point to consider is that, stringent labour laws can cut down into people's working hours and hence
, giving them more time
to spend on their health. Therefore
, strict vigilance on office timings will reduce fatigue and will prove to be a good solution. In other words
, lesser the working hour, the more time
all of us will have to go for a walk.
In conclusion, even though we all know that walking can be a great exercise, many factors have been contributing to reasons, which are compelling us not to take the healthy way. But as discussed, if we change a few legal and infrastructure related aspects, they are easily solvable.Submitted by amritadey2904 on
