International travel is becoming cheaper, and countries are opening their doors to more and more tourists. Do the advantages of increased tourism outweigh its disadvantages?

It is true that travelling abroad has become increasingly affordable, resulting in exponential growth in tourist numbers. In my opinion, while booming
tourism
offers some benefits, the potential drawbacks are greater. On the one hand, it is obvious that developing
tourism
in a country would boost economic growth. A well-developed
tourism
industry creates a lot of new businesses and jobs for the locals,
also
an influx of money from foreign tourists.
For example
, a majority of residents converted their homes to Homestays so that the tourists could stay as paying guests.
In addition
to
this
, international
tourism
is of paramount importance in sharing a country’s customs and traditions with people all around the world. Many people these days are really into gaining a deeper insight into different cultures, and
tourism
helps to facilitate
this
experience.
On the other hand
, I believe that there are a number of drawbacks that arise from the expansion of
tourism industry
Suggestion
the tourism industry
.
Tourism
has been a major cause of environmental pollution and destruction. In many Southeast Asian countries,
for example
, most tourists generally drink bottled water when on holiday, and
this
creates tonnes of plastic waste every year. Many developing countries do not know how to deal with the waste, and
therefore
, it ends up littered throughout the countryside, rivers, beaches and oceans.
Furthermore
, the influx of tourists is a key contributor to greenhouse gases emitted into the atmosphere, which is the main reason for the increasing global temperatures and changing climates.
This
is simply because carbon dioxide, mainly released into the atmosphere
as a result
of the burning natural gases and fossil fuels in the generation of electricity, in industries, in powering automobiles for
tourism
. In conclusion, though expanding
tourism
industry is beneficial to the economy and culture, I strongly believe that the disadvantages outweigh the advantages for environmental reasons.
