While it is commonly believed by some individuals that children learn how to be competitive by playing sports, others think that it trains them to work in teams. Individual sports

such
as cricket and football establish teamwork in children.
Most individual sports involve strategizing
and winning regardless of a collective effort. Hence
, when young people play these sports, they focus all their energy on scoring more than the opponents. This
encourages their competitive behaviour if they win several playoffs. For example
, most young tennis students are extremely competitive in all aspects of life. Therefore
, parents, whose children play individual competitive-sports, think that playing physical games make young children learn how to attain victory more than anything else.
On the other hand
, team-sports such
as football and hockey prioritize group efforts more than other aspects. This
is because single player playing well only help till a limited extent. However
, if a team displays unity while on the ground, every athlete’s efforts multiply. Hence
, making young children play such
games would subconsciously inculcate team playing traits. So, young children playing collective sports are seen to develop teamwork later in life.
To sum up, it is generally believed by some people that sports cultivate competitiveness in children while others argue that it teaches them teamwork. In my opinion, depending on the games being played, children would develop one of the qualities more than the other due to the traits required by these sports. Teaching children a blend of cooperation and healthy competition aids in their healthy upbringing as well as creating their all round personality.Submitted by Sanket Patel on
