Young people spend less of their free time with their family nowadays. What are the reasons for this? Are there more negative or positive sides?
More and
more younger
members of society are allocating less of their spare Suggestion
younger
time
on their family today than they did in the past. While there are some causes which engender this
trend, I personally believe that it does more harm than good.
There are two basic reasons which bring about this
tendency. Firstly
, because the technology and the internet have greatly advanced, many young people tend to spend quite a large amount of time
by going online. Most want to make new, virtual friends; have fun on online social networking websites, for example
. Consequently
, having been exposed to this
way of life, these people might feel reluctant to spend quality time
with their family members. Yet another cause of such
attitude can be explained with
increased competition in the world today. As it has become rather tough for people to excel in, say, education and work, they are likely to be ready to sacrifice their family Suggestion
by
time
to work harder and go the extra mile to achieve more.
However
, I am of the opinion that spending less time
with family members is utterly negative. I do concede the only positive aspect of this
, which can be better fulfilment
of people’s materialistic needs. Suggestion
a better fulfilment
This
is because they are pushing themselves more to work and earn to meet their needs, compromising their family. Nevertheless
, by doing so, they are communicating less frequently with their family. As a result
, the chances of having damaged relationships within a family are high and this
could potentially lead to a breakdown.
In conclusion, the reasons why many young people spend less of their free time
with their family mainly have to do with technology and modern ways of life. In my opinion, the merits of such
tendency are outweighed by its merits for the reasons mentioned above.Submitted by Sal on
