The use of social media is replacing face-to-face interaction among many people in society. Do you think the advantages outweigh the advantages?

Online interactive platforms are ousting offline social interactions. Whether the merits of
this
trend outweigh the demerits is the subject of much debate.

, the benefits are more than drawbacks.
Firstly
, while there are many benefits of social media sites, perhaps the most important is that it helps keep people bonded over time despite differences in location and time zones.
For example
, the Harvard Sociology Review published in the 2019 edition of its annual journal, Sociology Today, the report of a study conducted by Professor Herford Sherman.
This
study was about twenty men who had been friends for over ten years, and they were all still very close, despite not living in the same proximities. They attributed their continued relationship despite the distance to the

This

to a control group of twenty older men in the same study, all of whom had lost contact with their college friends.
As a result
, Professor Herford Sherman concluded that online social sites and

applications to help people
bond together over time and despite geographical location.
This
example shows that a significant benefit of social media is in helping to create better connections with acquaintances. Admittedly, there are downsides to online social sites gaining ground over one on one interactions, and one of the most significant of these is that it causes loss of personal touch between individuals who are supposed to be well-bonded.
This
is because it creates gradual desensitization to other people's feelings and emotions. To illustrate, Kikelomo Ige, a family research consultant with the Jennifer White foundation in the United States of America wrote in his book, where he detailed foremost reasons why families fail, that once phones, laptops, and other devices that can access online social stores become how families interact, the decline of the home is often very steep from
then
onwards.
Consequently
, and as a recommendation of her studies, she advised families not to allow these 'inhuman' sites to take the place of actual face to face conversation.
This
shows how over-indulgent online social media engagement can affect the bond between people. In conclusion,
although
there are drawbacks to social media engagements, in my opinion, the advantages,
such
as the benefit of keeping close contact with friends and loved ones who are not physically close by, far outweigh the disadvantages.
