The government spends a lot of money on space exploration and on trying to discover life on other planets. Some people think that the government is wasting money and should spend more money on addressing problems in society. To what extent do you agree?
Nowadays, a lot of effort is being made to investigate
space
in search of extraterrestrial life, and the major investor that keeps investing substantial money in these projects is the government. There is no consensus, however
, on whether these expenses are well-considered, as some people believe that the budget should be redistributed to social programs instead
. I personally disagree with this
opinion and will prove my point of view by identifying the economic benefits that these programs may have on present and future generations.
Firstly
, complex space
-related projects require research in various fields, thus
boosting multiple different industries. To illustrate this
, the US Moon program in the 1960s not only resulted in a man visiting the surface of our satellite but also
let to the development of advanced technologies such
as microcomputers and cell phones. Therefore
, the government is indirectly addressing numerous problems that exist in society by providing new jobs and business opportunities.
Secondly
, the state considers space
exploration as a long-term investment, with future generations being the main beneficiary. This
common practice has been in use since the Renaissance and it helps establish major geopolitical goals. For instance
, the Spanish royal family sponsored the first
voyage of Christopher Columbus in the late 15th century, and that helped Spain to obtain vast territories in America decades later. Obviously, our galaxy is much larger in size and value compared to Earth, hence
this
investment may someday result in tremendous dividends.
In conclusion, space
exploration serves as a powerful driving force for both industry and society. It can be agreed, therefore
, that the authorities should continue investing money in large-scale projects. Although
it is not entirely obvious, the government is foreseeing certain economic challenges that are yet to come, and spending money on space
programs today means having p
