People in many countries are spending less time with their family. What are the reasons and effects of this?
It is widely acknowledged that quality family
time
is on the decline for many households over the world in recent decades. This
tendency is attributable to a number of driving forces, and it is having an adverse bearing on human life.
There is a myriad of underlying reasons for this
trend. Evidence among all contributing factors is workaholism, either voluntary or self - induced which makes it hopeless for adults to spend quality time
with their offsprings. It is increasingly common that in this
day and age employees are obligated to undertake an extended hour of work, take night, overwork and return home very late at night. As a result
, the absence of family time
seems to be inevitable. More importantly, because of the prevalence of technological devices such
as computers, and tablets which manipulate youngsters’ behaviors

behaviours
this
day and age teenagers are overly addicted to these high-end gadgets and isolated from their families. Most young people, for example
, would prefer to spend time
texting with their friends rather than engage in conversation with their parents.
I would contend that reduced family time
has a host of repercussions for not only parents but also
children as a whole. Regarding the former, lack of parental participation could trigger some psychological diseases to kids such
as mood swings, a weakened sense of self, emotional distress, and violence and crime. For example
, when parents spend more time
working and less time
for their family, they inadvertently leave their kids more vulnerable to harmful influences from bad friends and media consumption. With respect to the latter, increasingly less family time
together unintentionally separates people apart from each other, in the long run, this
could result in a divorce and conflict among family members.
In conclusion, packed work schedules and heavy use of state-of-the-art gadgets are to blame for the deterioration of family relationships. I believe that this
situation has a variety of undesirable implications for both youngsters and spouses.Submitted by Andy on
