Hope
this
letter finds you in good health. I am writing
this
message to let you know how miserable I feel for damaging your food processor which I borrowed
last
week. I had planned to prepare tomato puree the previous Sunday and got all the required ingredients fresh from the Saturday market. My blender just stopped working at the
last
moment and
hence
borrowed yours to get the juice from the tomatoes. It worked well for the
first
batch and when I was about to blend the
second
batch, the front part of the blender just slipped from my hand and was broken. I have checked with the vendor here and the front part does not come separately and comes only when we buy the whole set. I know it is too much damage and I am willing to pay for it or replace the same. It is available in a store near my place. Please let me know your thoughts and I will act
accordingly
. Kindly excuse me for breaking the blender.

The Greeting

Depending on the style and aim of the letter, you will need to adapt your greeting.

Always start an informal letter in the ways:

  • Dear + name
  • Hi / Hello + name

‘Dear...’ is more appropriate, so stick with this.

For a formal letter there are two options for the greeting:

  • Use Dear Sir or Madam if you don’t know the name of the person you are writing to.
  • Use Dear + surname if you do know their name, e.g. Dear Mr Smith or Dear Mrs Jones.
