Some people believe that the best way to increase the road safety is to increase the minimum legal age for driving cars. To what extent do you agree or disagree.
In
this
modern world, people
are increasingly using different types of transportation such
as cars, trains, planes to minimize the time of travel. Road
traffic accidents
have also
surprisingly risen as a result
. Most people
argue that the governments should set regulations to increase the minimum age for driving. I do not agree with this
opinion because many reasons for RTA outweigh rather than young drivers nowadays.
I believe that some people
are demanding for increasing minimum age for driving in some countries because of insufficient practise and training under supervision. Moreover
, lack of experience regarding road
and weather conditions attributed to an increased number of accidents
. In the US, 2400 newly licensed teenagers were killed, and many of them got injuries
in 2019. Many factors such
as not wearing seatbelts, nighttime driving and drug and alcohol abuse are the main culprits for RTA.
Rather than that, it can be seen that there are some points regarding road
safety to be fixed. Motor vehicle crashes are becoming a public health concern in many other countries. One of the factors that contribute to RTA is impaired driving. Many drivers experienced accidents
while on illicit drugs or alcohol which leads to impaired consciousness. For that reason, many countries are alarming to restrict the use of drug or alcohol abuse while driving. The injuries
and deaths are preventable after taking action on substance use. Another important point is that we should give training on how to drive in difficult situations such
as poor weather and night driving. For example
, people
with reduced vision are probably to experience unintentional motor vehicle injuries
,especially at the nighttime.
In summary, there are many preventable factors for road
traffic accidents
rather than increasing the minimum legal age for teenagers. Therefore
, I believe that giving more public education for road
safety on pedestrians and drivers and improving road
infrastructure would be better strategies to prevent injuries
and deaths.Submitted by Shwe Yamin on
