Some people believe that there should be fixed punishments for each crime. Others, however, argue that the circumstances of an individual crime, and the motivation for committing it should always be taken into account when deciding on the punishment. Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.
To reduce the
crime
rate, it is important to establish critical punishments
for crimes
. While some people
think that punishments
for each crime
should be the same, others believe that it should be decided based on several factors such
as the motivation
and nature of the crime
. In this
essay, I will discuss both views and explain why I believe that punishment should not be fixed for each crime
.
To begin
with, it is irrefutable that people
would be afraid to commit crimes
if punishments
for those crimes
are fixed. Since people
would refrain from doing any kind of wrong-doings as they know that they would be end
up in prison or be penalized regardless of the nature of the Change the verb form

. For example
, currently, the punishment for an individual who has stolen an item from a grocery shop would be minimal whereas a person
who has stolen a bank would end up in prison. Because of this
reason, individuals tend to steal grocery items as they do not afraid of penalties so that the only way to ameliorate these activities is to establish a fixed penalty similar to a person
who has done a bank robbery.
However
, it is incontrovertible that establishing same

motivation
would be unfair. Even though some individuals have committed a crime
, their intention was not to commit it but has done due to unavoidable circumstances. For instance
, when a criminal is trying to murder an innocent person
and he/she tries to self-defence himself, and if the criminal get hurts or killed during the action, then
the innocent person
should not be treated as a criminal as his/her motivation
was self-defence to save his/her life from the criminal. Even though the outcome of a crime
is the same, punishments
for the crime
should be decided based on the circumstances and the motivations.
In summary, it is important to control crimes
with critical punishments
as it helps to improve the living condition of society. While some people
believe that each wrong-doing should have fixed penalties, others myself included think that it is important to decide it based on the
