In some countries an increasing number of people are suffering from health problems as a result of eating too much fast food. It is therefore necessary for governments to impose a higher tax on this kind of food. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this opinion?

There is an increasing concern regarding
health
issues related to fast
food
. Some
people
believe that increasing taxes on
this
kind of
food
to help solve these problems. I completely agree with
this
opinion and in
this
essay, I will discuss my point of view. There is no doubt that our
health
is dependent on our diet. I like repeating the one famous quote: “We are what we eat”. When we talk about fast
food
, we need to emphasize that
such
type of
food
contains a low level of nutrition value and at the same time,
this
food
is rich in harmful substances
such
as saturated fat, sugar, and salt. Eating fast
food
on a regular basis can lead to an increased risk of obesity and chronic diseases like cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, non-alcoholic fatty liver, and some cancers.
However
, over the
last
many years fast
food
is becoming more popular because of several reasons.
Firstly
, nowadays
people
have a fast pace of life and they do not have free time for cooking healthy meals.
Secondly
, fast
food
is tasty because in order to attract more
people
the producers add a special
food
supplement so-called sodium glutamate.
Moreover
, eating
this
type of
food
create dependence and
people
get used to
this
delicious meal.
Lastly
, fast
food
is cheap and
people
buy it to save money for other needs.
As a result
, we have encountered serious
health
issues and unless the governments take urgent actions, our societies will face even greater
health
problems in the future. One of
such
measures could be a higher tax on fast
food
because
this
tax would be included in the price and
consequently
, fast
food
would be expensive to eat regularly. It is likely
people
would have to change their diet. To sum up, if we want to have a healthier nation, the government should impose a higher tax on fast
food
and promote and support a healthy diet.
