In many parts of the world, children are given more freedom than in the past. Is this a positive or a negative development?

In most parts of the world, children nowadays are enjoying more
freedom
than their previous
generation
.
This
privilege is often taken for granted by many teenagers and
therefore
it is often misused.
Although
loosening the control over a child has positive impacts, they are overshadowed by the negative effects. A teenager might not be able to understand the thin boundary between right and wrong,
thus
, giving them more
freedom
than their
last
generation
might result in children getting into bad companies and,
as a result
, they might be exposed to drugs, or even major crimes just because of peer pressure.
For instance
, a child might start using drugs to just get along with friends and eventually get addicted to it and might even end up in prison.
Moreover
, compared to the past there has been tremendous technological advancements, so kids today are more connected than their
last
generation
.
In addition
to that, if there is less monitoring from parents, it may result in abuse of the internet by the kids.
For example
, there have been instances where teenagers often use their parent’s credit cards to buy things or even to watch porn from the internet.
However
, there are
also
pros in giving pupils more
freedom
compared to the old
generation
.
This
privilege allows them to be more vocal about their interests and opinion which would, in turn, allow them to choose the field of study they find interesting, rather than going with their parent's decision. Thereby in future, the child might choose a field of work he/she is comfortable with
such
as, art, business or engineering. In general, across the globe, teenagers today are given more
freedom
than their previous
generation
. Even though these might have positive implications, the negatives often outweigh them. Parents should have control over their kids as their parents had control over them.
