In the future, nobody will buy printed newspapers or books because they will be able to read everything they want online without paying. To what extend do you agree or disagree with this statement? Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Recently there has been an increasing tendency to reading on a screen, whether is a computer, cellphone, or tablet plenty of
people
are preferring to download their reading materials
instead
of acquiring them paper-based. Some argue that
this
behaviour will cause the extinction of physical
books
, magazines, and newspapers, while others claim that they will continue. In
this
essay, we will discuss some of the reasons why some prefer to read on electronic devices and others on paper materials. We must begin with the most important advantage of acquiring reading material through the internet, the cost-saving. While buying
books
will always give to
people
certain satisfaction, download a book or sometimes just a chapter of it stands for a more affordable acquisition. Drawing from my experience, as a science student when I was studying for my bachelor's degree, the professors were always suggesting to us different
books
that will help us through our careers. In the beginning, I did buy the non-electronic versions,
however
, the investment started to be unaffordable. Other students from higher semesters told us that the best way of getting good grades and saving money was to get the material online. The advantage that
this
strategy has on education is enormous and will continue to have a positive impact. Another important point of view we must discuss is that reading on paper have important intellectual advantages over reading on a screen. When
people
read on a computer or cellphone unconsciously they are only skimming through it, they are not understanding the material according to what the author wants to transmit.
Likewise
, on a screen the retention of information is minimal and
people
normally have to read more than once to understand the topic.
This
is an evolutionary situation drawing from the fact that nowadays everyone is busy and hurry so our brains have evolved to adapt to
this
reality. The
last
point I'd like to add is that, in general, society prefers to keep their reading content inside their pockets with the help of their cellphones.
Moreover
, students prefer to carry their study material on their computers
instead
of having three or four
books
on their backpacks. Technology must be seen as something
that is
here to help us be more productive and allow us time to do other important things. All things considered, no one can deny that reading on a monitor has a lot of negative implications but, the advantages over printed material are taking humanity to migrate from one to another.
Nevertheless
, saying that nobody will acquire non-electronic material in the future is extreme and inaccurate. We cannot forget that with the introduction of cinemas some claimed that theatre will disappear and, while it is less common than in the past, it still existing.
