There seems to be an increasing trend towards assessing students through exams rather than continual assessment. What are the advantages and disadvantages of exams as a form of assessments?

Education is vital for the growth of an individual so that they can meet the requirements of the job market.
However
, the method of assessment through
exams
 rather than rigorous evaluations is often debated amongst parents. In
this
 essay, we shall discuss the advantages and disadvantages of the
exams
 against the continual assessments.
Firstly
, one of the main advantages of examining
students
 through paper-based
exams
 is that it creates competition among
students
. Once the
exam
 dates are announced, the euphoria of competition develops among
students
 and they are seen in libraries.
For instance
, when I was in university, once the semester
exams
 approached, we all started studying in the library till late in the night.
Secondly
, it develops personality and
confidence
 in people, especially oral examinations. The viva
exam
 is the one where the examiner verbally analyzes the knowledge of
students
.
This
 not only creates
confidence
 but
also
 develops the personality and make them ready for practical life. The disadvantage of the
exams
 is that it is putting all your eggs in one basket. It was extremely nerve-wracking for
students
 because the full year of studying comes down to a couple of
exams
, and in a way, it does not justify a student's calibre. Because sometimes even nerves can cause the best student to muck up an
exam
. It
also
 sometimes gives rise to
students
 cheating, for fear of failure.
For example
, whilst I was studying in school, we had a yearly
exam
 in June, and it was very intense for many
students
. There were a couple of kids who were caught for cheating, and even though they were hardworking
students
, their school semester was judged by their one-act committed under pressure. In conclusion,
although
 the
exams
 create
confidence
 and develop
confidence
 in people and it
also
 deprives them of good health and promotes the habit of memorizing. So, institutes should devise a mechanism that not only assesses the knowledge of
students
 but
also
 develop their personality.
