My hometown is called Newquay. It is a small seaside town in the county of Cornwall which is in the far south-west of England. I have lived here all my life. It is a stunningly beautiful place that draws many visitors each summer. The winter population is only 20,000 but it swells to 100,000 in the summer. Families arrive in droves from the cities so that their children can play on the beach and young people come here for surfing. It is can be popular with the older generation as it is a great place to just relax. I enjoyed growing up and going to school here. At that time, I lived outside the town and there was only one bus every two hours. I was never bored as a child. I love birds, animals, plants and just about everything that nature has to offer. Country walks were my idea of heaven and I never worried whether the sun shone, the wind blew or the rain poured down. I now live nearer the town centre. It has changed a great deal over the years and sometimes makes me feel sad. Perhaps I am just getting old and not moving with the times. I don't know. Many of the hotels have been pulled down and turned into flats. They seem to be building houses in every empty space. It's no longer as safe for children to play outside on their own. Today, a child's life revolves around television, Xboxes and mobile phones. I think we were the lucky ones, we had freedom which is something I will always value.
