The Internet has changed the way we interact with each other now compared to in the past. What are the advantages and disadvantages of this?

The
Internet
is omnipresent in everyone's daily life and there is no doubt, that it has affected the way in which we communicate. In the past, the only possibility to talk with someone

was to arrange a personal meeting or to write a letter.
However
, nowadays it is most common to use social media, chats and video calls. In
this
essay, I will outline what I consider to be potential advantages of using the
Internet
as the main channel of social
interactions
, as well as some of the negative outcomes that I feel are occurring. In terms of the benefits of digitalized communication, there are but are not limited to, two clear ones. The
first
is the possibility to stay in touch with
people
living abroad. To illustrate it more, when somebody moves to another country, which is far from his domestic one, thanks to online chats, video conversations and phone calls, having
contact
with relatives is extremely convenient.
This
is especially important in emergency situations when an immediate conversation is needed. Another pros, which have been experienced all around the world recently, is the fact, that nowadays almost all social situations can be transited to the
Internet
. During the COVID pandemic,
for instance
, when personal
contact
is not safe, a major group of
people
and companies can work without any disruptions, students attend classes and families and friends are able to communicate. It all is possible because of the
Internet
. There are,
however
, some possible drawbacks of using the
Internet
to interact with others. One is that the level of social skills among new generations is decreasing dramatically.
Thus
, the effect of social
interactions
dominated by online communicators

manifests in young
people
who do not possess developed abilities,
such
as teamwork or empathy.
Also
, it may lead to issues at university or work, where
interactions
with others are a crucial part of everyday life. A
further
issue is jeopardized relations with grandparents. Even though for most of society online chat or phone call is enough to maintain good relationships, there are older
people
, for whom face-to-face
contact
does matter a lot. For

it is incredibly hard to get used to the modern lifestyle without often personal meetings. In conclusion, online
contact
has plenty of positive effects,
however
, it can
also
lead to some negative implications. I wholeheartedly believe, that when used with attention, the
Internet
can have many positive effects on
people
's
interactions
.

Word Count

IELTS says that you should write a minimum of 250 words in writing task 2. If you go under word count you will lose marks in task response.

A very long essay will not give you a higher band score.

Aim for between 260 to 290 words in writing task 2. This will ensure a concise essay and will be realistic in terms of time management. You have only 40 minutes to write the essay and you need around 10 minutes of planning time, so you will not be able to write a long essay in 30 minutes.
