I am writing
this
letter to request you to consider me for the part-time voluntary program at the museum. I saw the advertisement in the local newspaper tabloid yesterday and would like to apply for the position of receptionist and would be very delighted to serve society if given a chance.
Firstly
, I am a part-time student pursuing my diploma in arts from St Stephens College and possesses an enormous interest in serving society. Hence
, I feel that this
opportunity would provide me with the platform to extend my services. I enjoy learning and unfolding about the art and scriptures in the museum.
Additionally
, I possess the computer skills like Microsoft- office and excel and basic computer skills and believe that they will be well suited for the position of receptionist. Moreover
, I am always keen to communicate with people and would be able to interact and convey information about cultural heritage.
I will be available during weekends for the interviews. Kindly consider my application and allow me to explore myself in the interview.
Hope to hear a prompt and positive response from you.
Yours faithfully,

The Greeting
Depending on the style and aim of the letter, you will need to adapt your greeting.
Always start an informal letter in the ways:
- Dear + name
- Hi / Hello + name
‘Dear...’ is more appropriate, so stick with this.
For a formal letter there are two options for the greeting:
- Use Dear Sir or Madam if you don’t know the name of the person you are writing to.
- Use Dear + surname if you do know their name, e.g. Dear Mr Smith or Dear Mrs Jones.
