Dear Mike, Thanks for dropping me a line. In spite of being sent to my old address, your letter found me in the end. Yes, I have wonderful news. I have moved to the suburbs!. I know what you're going to say. I have always complained about these same looking houses with no personality. But, believe me, they are full of advantages.
First
of all, my new home is nearer to the office. Much nearer than my old house. Whereas I had to commute for almost an hour on the bus every day, now I'm just at a 15 minutes walk from it. Isn't it great? And by the way, everything is quieter here. No more blank nights listening to the traffic noises and the music from the pub downstairs. And
besides
, it is cheaper! I'm living in a flat, now. I think I wouldn't be able to get used to climbing the stairs up and down again. No more stairs for me, thanks. The building is a recent building site, with all the modern commodities you can expect from it. Elevator, conditioned air, central heating... the lot! Two bedrooms (one ensuite) and a small kitchen. The living room is enormous! Much bigger than my old one. I have amazing views of the riverbank, where we used to play when we were kids. Those were great days, weren't they? I hope you can pay me a visit soon and see it for yourself.
This
month of July I'm travelling to Spain for the holidays, but I am available in September and I can take some days off from work. If you're gonna come, please tell me as soon as possible. Write to me when you get
this
letter, so I can make plans ahead. Lots of love, Mike

Word Count

IELTS says that you should write a minimum of 150 words in writing task 1. If you go under word count you will lose marks in task response.

A very long letter will not give you a higher band score.

Aim for between 160 to 190 words in writing task 1. This will ensure a concise letter and will be realistic in terms of time management. You have only 20 minutes to write the letter and you need around 5 minutes of planning time, so you will not be able to write a long letter in 15 minutes.
