In contemporary society, it has been contentious whether
newspapers
or the
internet
is a better source to absorb knowledge and
information
for the public. In
this
I will shed some light on both means.
To begin
with,
newspapers
have been, and still are, renowned for their trustworthiness. Most of them have been operating for decades, and have a reputation to withhold. Journalists and editors in
news
organizations are taught and required to protect their sources and verify their stories.
Consequently
, they can extract shocking stories which others cannot and still the public can believe, to the very least, the facts of the reports. Certainly, different papers have different stances and in some
they tend to cherry-pick the
news
.
For example
, Fox is known to be friendly to Trump in its reporting. Still, the stance of a
news
organization is very much consistent and we can do our own discounting before deciding to believe its stories or not.
Furthermore
,
newspapers
are picky in their hiring process, so we can assume the language and spelling of words are correct, it is
hence
useful for students as far as learning is concerned.
On the other hand
,
information
on the
internet
is multifarious. We can learn all we can imagine on the
internet
, notwithstanding the need to judge ourselves whether the materials are dependable. A lot of KOL (key opinion leaders) disseminating
news
and
information
on the
internet
areChange the verb form
show examples
followed by readers or viewers, yet there is no guarantee their
information
or understanding of the matter is correct.
For instance
, a lot of KOLs suddenly became military experts once the Ukraine war broke out and made quite some predictions, which had turned out to be incorrect.
In addition
,
information
online can even be dangerous. It is exemplified by the fact that previous Japanese prime minister Abe was killed by a man who learnt to make a gun from 3D printing by following online guidance. I must admit,
however
, the
information
on the
internet
can be faster and more useful to some groups of the public, like the investing community, very often the stock prices are different once a rumour is confirmed the
next
day.
In short, the
information
on the
internet
is fast, but not verified by trustworthy people like those employed by
newspapers
. In my opinion, both sources of
information
are needed by us but it is commendable for adolescents who may not yet develop good judgement ability to stick to
newspapers
.
