Increasing the price of petrol is the best way to solve the growing traffic and pollution problems. To what extent do you agree or disagree with the statement? What other measures do you think might be effective?

In the present day, the rise of heavy
traffic
and air
pollution
concerns society. In order to solve these problems, some individuals suggest that the price of petrol should be increased. From my perspective, rising crude
oil
prices is not the best method to solve it as there are more alternative solutions and
this
essay will illustrate the reason.
First
of all, it is undeniable that if the petrol price is increased, fewer people will be able to afford it and the number of private cars will reduce. It will lead to less congestion on the road and less
pollution
.
However
, there is a huge consequence of
this
action that the government needs to closely consider which is a higher inflation rate. Crude
oil
is a major economic input, so a rise in
oil
prices contributes to high inflation leading to a high cost of living and economic problems.
On the other hand
,
traffic
and
pollution
issues can be solved by other effective methods. Singapore could be the best example of how to reduce congestion and
pollution
. The
first
measure that they
use
is to increase public transportation connections and reduce ticket fares to encourage individuals to
use
it rather than
use
their own vehicles.
Furthermore
, the government should implement a road toll when drivers drive in the city which charges drivers more during peak hours and in areas that tend to become highly congested. These methods encourage citizens to
use
private cars in non-rush hours and to take less trafficked routes

and generally discourage unnecessary driving. It
also
encourages the
use
of public transport and helps Singapore manage
pollution
levels.
In addition
, building more parks in the city is able to improve air quality as trees reduce harmful carbon
pollution
. With all reasons taken into account, I am strongly convinced that increasing the price of crude
oil
isn't an efficient way to decrease
traffic
and
pollution
concerns. Apart from adjusting energy prices, Singapore has proved that there are more practical approaches to save the environment and reduce packed
traffic
,
for example
improving public transportation, collecting dynamic city tolls that vary on time and packed routes, and building more parks.

Include an introduction and conclusion

A conclusion is essential for IELTS writing task 2. It is more important than most people realise. You will be penalised for missing a conclusion in your IELTS essay.

The easiest paragraph to write in an essay is the conclusion paragraph. This is because the paragraph mostly contains information that has already been presented in the essay – it is just the repetition of some information written in the introduction paragraph and supporting paragraphs.

The conclusion paragraph only has 3 sentences:

  • Summary
  • Restatement of thesis
  • Prediction or recommendation

Example:

To summarize, a robotic teacher does not have the necessary disciple to properly give instructions to students and actually works to retard the ability of a student to comprehend new lessons. Therefore, it is clear that the idea of running a classroom completely by a machine cannot be supported. After thorough analysis on this subject, it is predicted that the adverse effects of the debate over technology-driven teaching will always be greater than the positive effects, and because of this, classroom teachers will never be substituted for technology.

Start your conclusion with a linking phrase. Here are some examples:

  • In conclusion
  • To conclude
  • To summarize
  • Finally
  • In a nutshell
  • In general
