Nowadays, a growing number of people with health problems are trying alternative medicines and treatments instead of visiting their usual doctors. Do you think this is a positive or a negative development?

In
this
day and age, there are more and more
people
seeking an
alternative
way to cure their illnesses, as modern
medicine
cannot always treat them.
However
, the
alternative
ways of treatment are still questioned regarding their qualities. Personally, I am of the opinion that
this
is a negative trend, and my reasons will be elaborated on in
this
essay.
To begin
with, The
first
reason why the trend of
people
becoming more reliant on
alternative
treatments can be detrimental is that these practices are still controversial in terms of their effectiveness. To explain, there are no studies supporting their treatment results ,and no trustworthy institutes supervise the quality of their manufacturing processes like in modern medicines.
For example
, WHO has reported that using non-certified medicines made from herbs is one of the most common causes of renal failure among renal patients in Asian countries. From
this
perspective,
alternative
medicine
can cause undesirable side effects more than
people
anticipated.
Furthermore
, another potential drawback which should not be neglected is scammers can use
this
as a tool to scam unknowledgeable
people
. To clarify,
people
seeking a new way of
medicine
usually believe in its advertising regardless of scientific support.
For Instance
, in Thailand, there was a brand of drinkable collagen that claimed that its product can treat all diseases, as well as cancer, and surprisingly thousands of Thai
people
bought
this
product ,
although
no case reports came out to confirm
this
. In
this
respect, it is apparent that
people
can waste money on these kinds of products without any advantageous effects on their health at all. In conclusion,
although
modern medicines are not able to treat all diseases , I am of the opinion that adopting
alternative
medicine
is disadvantageous progress.
