With the rise of e-books comes the decline in paper books. some people see this as a good step forward while others do not. what are the advantages and dis advantages of this trend?
Since the middle of the 2000s electronic
books
were introduced to the public and instantly became a popular item to purchase. It promised to customers immediate access to any book
they wished to have. While many consider this
development as a positive step forward, I think of it otherwise
. In this
essay, I'll discuss the advantages and downfalls of this
change and give my opinion on the matter.
To begin
with, our world faces a transition from an information age to a knowledge age. In the near future with the development of, AI it will be necessary to be well-educated in every aspect of our lives. This
will give us enough opportunity to require the desired information from the AI. At this
stage, e-books
are very useful for us in order to have access to any book
we wish to have. Speaking from my own experience, many bookshops in my country do not have international books
, specifically related to innovation and the history of a particular event. As a result
, it converts me into a regular user of Amazon Kindle, where for example
, I search and download above mentioned books
, and also
get cheaper deals as a bonus.
However
, a recent survey in the US has shown that hard-copy books
like monsters in horror movies, won't go anywhere. In fact, 37% of respondents claim that they read only paper-based books
and only 7% of people read digital copies. These figures illustrate, that traditional methods of reading are more appealing to readers. Not only that, sales of print books
mean that printing houses will still be in the business, just like book
restoration specialists. Moreover
, there are many bookshops in the world that hire and give job opportunities to thousands.
To summarise, even though e-books
offer us advantages like saving time and money, and having constant access to any book
, I still think that owning a print book
gives a person more pleasure and contributes to keeping the publishers' business afloat.Submitted by lamaxmedova on
