The diagram shows how the Global Positioning System works in order to help people find their location anywhere on earth.
The diagram explains the work of the Global Positioning System in providing an exact position to users on
earth
.
Generally speaking, there are three parts of this
system, beginning with satellites
in space, the Base Transmission System (BTS) receiving and sending data to the users, and finally
, from the users’ perspective, how people can know their position from the satellites
.
The figure reveals that there are 24 satellites
located around 20,000 km above the earth
and orbiting consecutively. Each of them is powered by solar energy taken directly from the sun. Since precise time
is important, the satellite is equipped with an atomic clock attached to its board to keep the information
regarding time
. In terms of exchanging information
, the satellites
use the antenna to trade information
with the central station on earth
.
From the earth
’s view, radar stations capture changes brought by the satellites
passing over them. This
information
will then
be sent back to space using the BTS before finally
will be broadcasted to the users. Two pieces of information
are sent to the user, including the exact place and the time
it was transmitted. In order to locate, our gadget will measure the distance between a person on earth
and four satellites
that are passing over it by comparing the time
data was sent, and the time
it was received.Submitted by rocky_dillak on
