Your friend invited you to his/her birthday, but you are unable to attend. Write a letter to your friend. In your letter explain why you cannot go explain why you didn’t contact him/hear sooner suggest another time and place to meet
Dear Zaki
I hope you're doing fine, it's been a
while
since we last
got together for a catch-up.
The reason why I'm writing this
letter is to tell you that I won't
be able to come to your birthday party and trust me, it's for a good reason, you know that I was unemployed for a while
and last
week I got a call from a potential recruiter for a job interview and it coincides with the date of the party.
I'm sorry that I didn't
tell you earlier, see I was busy with preparation because I haven't
done an interview in a long time, I was afraid that I wasn't
well prepared, so I was fully focused on doing my best, till yesterday, I realized that it's the same day as your birthday, and that's why I decided to write this
letter.
You don't
have to worry about your present, I'll send it to you on that day, even though we're not going to meet at the party, that doesn't
stop us from planning an evening out together, so would you fancy meeting me on November 14th at the city park where we're going to spend some time there and then
eat dinner at McDonald's.
I can't
wait to hear from you
All the best

Almost every sentence in your essay should have a linking word of some sort.
In fact, the only sentences that can omit linking words are your background sentence and thesis.
