Dear David,
I am so happy to hear from you! First of all, I know of a couple of local resorts that let you appreciate the local texture of the city to the fullest. They're all located inside the historic parts of the town and you can easily visit all the historic buildings on foot.
Aside from the historical texture of the city, what you should consider visiting is the waterfall to the north of the city. You can book tours to the area from your hostel or from any of the tourism stands all over the town. It's a one-day tour and I think you would really like the forests surrounding the area.
The weather is quite moderate in the season that you're planning to visit here so bringing only a couple of light jackets would be enough for your whole trip.
I'm excited to meet you soon! and
