In many countries, people are now living longer than ever before. Some people say an ageing population creates problems for governments. Other poeple think there are benefits if society has more elderly people. To what extent do the advantages of having an egeing population outweigh the disadavantages?

People
are now living longer than before in many countries. Some
people
say there are benefits if society has more older
people
. Other
people
think an ageing
population
creates problems for governments. I think the former viewpoint far outweighs the latter. On the one hand, the ageing
population
may create an excessive budget in the
health
sector. Take Indonesia,
for example
, which has a
health
insurance program for citizens. The more ages
people
have, the more
health
budget government spends.
As a result
, some sectors,
such
as education and infrastructure, are important but cannot be maximally funded. More schools, roads, and bridges can probably be built if the government can allocate much more to these sectors.
However
, I think
this
problem can be substituted by the benefit of
knowledge
and
experience
of the ageing
population
,
such
as how an ageing national leader can deliver a great policy.
For instance
, Steve Jobs, a multinational company leader, invented Apple products that produced many benefits in technology for many
people
worldwide.
On the other hand
, more older
people
's enabled
knowledge
and
experience
can be widely accepted as a great benefit for a nation.
For instance
, Mahathir Mohammad, a 97 years old president of Malaysia, led the government by implementing his years of
experience
.
As a result
,
according to
some economic experts, it could solve a problematic problem related to Malaysia's economy,
such
as a high inflation rate, high unemployment, and an ineffective economic program implemented. In comparison, a previous president could not handle these problems because of the lack of
experience
in Malaysia's economic history. I agree with
this
point because many older adults have more
knowledge
and
experience
than younger ones, so they are more capable of tackling important issues. In conclusion,
although
the ageing
population
may cause excessive budgets in the
health
sector, they have more
experience
and
knowledge
they can share as a great benefit to the nation.
Thus
, I believe the upside greatly outweighs the downside.
