The diagram below shows the manufacturing process for making sugar from sugar cane. Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
The picture diagram illustrates the phases involved in producing
sugar
from sugar
cane plants.
Overall
, there are seven distinct stages of this
process
which starts with planting sugar
canes and culminates in drying and cooling the crystal syrup to form sugar
which is ready to be consumed.
In the first stage of this
process
, the sugar
cane plants are grown from one to one and a half years before being harvested by farmers and machines. After that, sugar
canes are put into a crushing machine where they are pressed hard enough to produce juice. Subsequently
, the liquid goes through a limestone filter to eliminate all of the impurities.
The process
continues as the purified juice is taken into an evaporator using high temperature to transform the juice into syrup. This
is followed by the use of a centrifuge to separate sugar
crystal from syrup before it is left dried and cooled to get the finished product - sugar
in the last
stage of this
process
